This product was created with a diverse classroom in mind. Activities can be easily up-leveled to be enrichment activities by requiring things like sentences, etc. But they can also be used for students who require more visual supports in order to understand learning phonetic code.
I have a BS in Elementary Education, a MS Degree in adaptive special education, K-12, additional training in applied behavior analysis and autism instruction, and have been teaching K-12 for almost 10 years.
In addition to making materials for my students, I also have a son with Down Syndrome. Phonics has been a struggle for him. As a result, I have been working to find something that “clicks” for him for years. This has been the program that has really reached him! We do this every night before he goes to bed, and for the first time in his life, he won’t let me forget his “work.” Watching him enjoy learning has filled my heart with joy and I would love to share that experience with you and your students!
Each step has multiple levels. The Bingo Games begin with matching word to word and the second level matches the word to the picture.
Each game has its own special envelope to hold the game pieces.
The spelling is set up in such a way that the students can practice tracing the correct word, close the “window” and spell the word on their own. Then they can open the “window” and check their work.
The writing portion begins with providing choices to place in the boxes for students to complete a sentence and illustrate it. The next level provides pictures for idea starters and allows space for students to write their own words and draw their own pictures. Also included is a cover page for the students to showcase themselves as Author/ Illustrator!
The 2 BONUS books are included to compliment the interactive notebook.
The pictures that are to be included in the Interactive Journal are full color. This is the kind of notebook that can be sent home and used both at home and at school. The student can showcase their abilities to their parents and as a teacher, it is a great tool to use for school to home communication as well as documentation for tracking IEP phonics, sight word, phonemic awareness and spelling goals.
If you are interested in some ideas for IEP goals that may align with this program, I would be happy to help you. Contact me at Heiman.firstname.lastname@example.org.
These activities also set students up for success from the very beginning! Even struggling readers do not feel self conscious or hesitant to perform the activities when they have confidence that they will succeed!
This notebook is great for so many students who require a little extra support including students with a diagnosis of Autism, Down Syndrome, Specific Learning Disabilities and Developmental Delays, or even students who just need some review before moving on!
